Complaints here

Over the past couple days, have you noticed a change in the lids Tim's is using?

I for one hate these new lids - as I can't get the little flap to stay closed.

That is all.

Simpsonize me

I remember making a South Park Ferda a while back and then Ryan blogged about this Simpsonize Me site. Here is a Simpsonized Ferda Simpson about to make a stop at the Quickie Mart.

Mid Summer Review

I guess it's about time for another blog post. Only a few things to update on. Most of our routines are still the same. Ferda's still "in between jobs" and enjoying her time off at home. I think that she's still making the most of it, by playing ultimate, visiting with other unemployed friends, and, just this past week, she got to go wakeboarding! I was quite jealous about this one; imagine Ferda out in the sun on a beautiful lake, shredding the wake, while I'm still at work. Booo-urns. And yes, I said Boo-urns.

About two weeks ago now we bought a new car. Well, it's new for us. I guess you could call it previously enjoyed. However, only slightly enjoyed as it has very few kilometers on it. Approx 16,000 kms. It's a '06 Toyota Corolla and we're quite happy with it. So now that we have two cars again, I no longer have to take the bus to work, which is good, since we all know my attitude towards public transportation.

I'm still wasting away my youth at work, things are pretty quiet here over the summer, to say the least. Not much is going on around here, but I suppose that's good so I can continue to go to the gym on my lunchbreaks. Speaking of the gym, I'm seeing some improvements again in the amount of weight I can lift for shoulder press and bench press. I've got my bench press up to 185 pounds consistently, and my shoulder press to 135. I'm pretty happy with those amounts. I guess I still need to sub in more cardio to help shed some excess weight from around my mid section; maybe I'll save that for the Fall. Ahhhh, nothing like procrastination. :D

Speaking of cardio - we're still playing lots of ultimate frisbee. Ferda's officially playing 4 nights a week still, while I play 3. However, most weeks she subs in for a team for the 5th night, making it a long week of ultimate. Both of our games have improved a lot, and we're seeing our distance and accuracy in throwing getting better and better each day. And I just bought some fancy new cleats over the weekend, so I'm looking forward to ripping up some turf and out-running some opponents over the next few weeks. As we get closer to August, and the playoffs for ultimate, all of our teams are doing quite well. Playoff weekend should be quite a blast. Let's just hope for some good weather.

I suppose that's all I have to say for now - stay tuned for another update later on in July.

Best Pranks

Today at work some of us were talking about some of the pranks we were involved in, or had done to us. For example, a while back I posted pics of the time I tin foiled a co worker's office for April Fool's Day.

Anyway, I remembered one I was involved in back in high school that was pretty funny. In my grade 12 year (last year) about 8-10 of us went out at lunch to the parking lot and literally picked up this one teacher's car and moved it to an area beside the lot with a few trees. We moved it right in between two trees so there was no way of getting it outta there by driving it. Was quite funny, and a well organized plan since it took quite a bit of coordination to lift and move the car. End of the story was we got it quite a bit of shit and had to move it back down to the pavement.

What was one of your best pranks?

EDIT: And today is payday! WOOHOO!

Golf and a Movie

Yesterday after work some co-workers and I went out for a quick round of golf. We managed to get in almost 11 holes, even though we only paid for 9. The weather was pretty decent for it too, I thought; not too hot, not too much wind. I was pretty happy.

Back in June, the same group of us went to a office golf tournament. We did ok, considering how back we all are. Get this, our foursome consists of:

James (me) (aka Homer)
James (aka Jamesmo)
James (aka Seamus)
Scott (doesn't really have a nickname)

But isn't it crazy that there's so many guys named James who work here?

After golf, Jamesmo and I went to the movies and watched the new Transformers movie. I liked it a lot. He complained about plot holes, but I know he liked it too. Made for a late night, since I didn't get back til 1am-ish. I imagine it was even later for Jamesmo since he drove - but we were both good employees and made it into work today. And now today, specifically this afternoon, Ferda is going to see the same Transformers movie with Warren. I'm sure she'll like it.

In fact - I bet you all would like it - really quite a good movie.

Long Weekend Review

Not to be outdone by Ferda, here's my blog post for the month of July. She's right, I haven't been blogging much lately, albeit, it's been more than her, which is saying quite a bit considering she's at home right now watching Maury :D

I guess I just have been lazy to blog - but I'll try and get back into it. I'm not sure if many people still read these. If you are still out there please leave a comment - then I'll know I still have an audience ;)

So - Friday night after the Gullwings won (putting us at 7-0 for the season so far) we came home, cleaned up, and invited Jmo and Heather over. They brought their new wii game Brain Academy: Wii Degree and we played that for a bit and then also played a quick round of Mario Party8. After we were done with our wii's, we played a speedy game of Settler's which brought us to about 2am. At this point, Heather was falling asleep as usual so they took off.

Saturday brought us out to the Rideau River with Alex and Holly for some boating. The weather wasn't really all that great, but we still had a super time. Even though it rained on and off again, the water was surprisingly warm so it was nice to get some wakeboarding done. First time of the season was difficult for us all, and I think we're all still feeling it in our backs and muscles. I had a particularly spectacular wipe out which I'm still feeling today.

After boating we went to Holly's for some grub - she made a great dinner which we all enjoyed very much. After dinner, the drinking started as more arrived and we prepared for our night out at the Heart and Crown downtown. Many folks were down there, and I had a great time chatting, drinking, and rocking out to celebrate our nations birthday.

Sunday morning I woke early thanks to my father's phone call at 9am. I wasn't very impressed with him. Regardless we got out stuff together and headed out to the cottage to visit him, and my aunt and uncle. We relaxed at the cottage for the afternoon, they showed us their pictures from the recent trip to Greece. Ferda was pretty intrigued with the pictures, as I guess that the similarities between turkish and greek culture are quite strong. For dinner we headed to that fancy restuarant out there, Auberge Val Carol and we had a very tasty supper. After dinner we drove back to Ottawa which took quite a while - didn't get back home until about 1am.

Monday we took it easy, watched some tv in the morning and bummed around. In the afternoon we went to the movies to watch Knocked Up which was pretty funny and disturbing at the same time. Then for the evening we had an ultimate game which we won. Neither of us felt like we played all too great since our bodies were still pretty sore from boating.

And today, Tuesday, back to work. This morning while I was sitting in the kitchen eating cereal, I noticed two bunnies jumping around in our backyard. Likely the same two bunnies that ate my tulips back in the spring. So I went outside and had a little chat with those bunnies and told them to stay away from my tomato plants.

Update on Ferda

Hi everybody (this has to be read in a Dr. Nick voice),

James has been off his blogging kick lately. Although I'm not too sure why since he's always complaining about not having enough things to do at work. It's because he has a normal workload now as opposed to the bajillion fires/day he is accustomed to putting out at his previous job. Anyhoodles, I figured I'd pick up the slack a little...

As some of you may or may not know I am currently "in between jobs" and no that is not code for "I got fired" because I didn't. I quit my job which was sort of tough because I loved what I was doing but more importantly I loved the people I worked with. I had the best boss ever! However I loved the idea of having some serious time off in the summer to catch up on some bumming around even more. I do have something lined up so I'm not really stressing. I had applied for this Management Trainee Program with the federal government and after a series of tests and interviews I got in the program (suckers!). The thing about this program though is that I have to get my CBCs in French before I start. I got evaluated and it turns out I require about 10 months of French training for me to get there. French classes here I come! I'm just waiting now to find out when they start. I have always wanted to speak French so I'm really looking forward to it.

My last day of work was June 7th. My parents came into town that day and stayed with us for about 10 days. It was great seeing them and having them around. It felt strange when they left. I miss them already. We mostly relaxed when they were here. We had long drawn out meals on the patio just savoring the day... James' best man Jordan was also in town around the same time with his fiancee Katie. There were 6 of us at our place at one point but it was fine, it was actually quite fun having a full house like that. We introduced them to the best board game ever: Settlers of Catan. Needless to say they became instantly hooked, which has been the case with anyone else we've played that game with, I think everyone went out and bought their own afterwards. We were playing Settlers into the wee hours of the night even on the night before they were leaving back to Vancouver and had to leave the house at 6 AM.

I had another visitor at the end of June. My good friend Jen came to visit me from Mississauga. We saw Staylefish in concert on the 21st. She surprised her super talented brother Dan who plays guitar on Staylefish. He had no idea she was going to be there and was clearly touched by her support. It was so sweet! Jen hooked me up with their latest disc, which happens to be fantastic and perfect for the summertime, and I got myself some cool Staylefish threads.

All the while I've been playing ultimate almost every day. My main goal with this time off has been to get somewhat into shape and lose some poundage. I am currently on 4 teams: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday (women's) and Friday but I've also been subbing for a couple of teams on Tuesdays as well. I've also been going to Hot Power Yoga classes. I'm done with the classes now and am thinking of maybe starting to run and going to the gym for some weight training. We'll see how long this kick lasts...

I know there was some other stuff I wanted to write about but I can't remember right now. I will write more another day. It's not like I don't have the time or anything ;-) Heeheehee

Oh but I want to post some trailers of some movies I want to catch in case anyone is interested. This one is coming to the Bytowne towards the end of this month, Eagle vs. Shark:

and this one just looks hilarious, Superbad:

Also Fifa U20 is in town and we're thinking of catching a game.

I think I'll go see what's in the fridge now... laters!
