Blog Resurection and the LHC

After about 8 straight months of inactivity, I plan to do my best to resurrect this blog. I'll continue the same random topics that were discussed here before, so don't get your hopes up that this blog will become any better than it was. :P

Leading up to today, many have feared that September 10th, 2008 would be the end of the world as we know it. The reason is simple, the good physicists at CERN have started tests with the Large Hardron Collider.

As far as my undertstanding goes, the reason people fear these tests is that small, mini black holes will be created as result of smashing the particles together. And since no one has observed a mini black hole here on earth before, we have to rely on Stephen Hawking's theory of Black Hole Radiation.

So the question is, do you trust Stephen Hawking?

edit: obviously this post is late in coming since you are reading this blog, and therefore you are not dead, so therefore the world did not implode as a result of black holes, so therefore Dr. Hawking was correct with his theory.

But in answer to my own question, I do trust the guy. You can't wrong with someone who's been on 4 different episodes of Futurama and the Simpsons!!!
